Weekend of a Champion

Weekend of a Champion is one of those intimate documentaries that feels like you’re tagging along for a weekend with a friend who just happens to be one of the best Formula One drivers in the world. It follows Jackie Stewart during the 1971 Monaco Grand Prix, with Roman Polanski, his close friend, basically hanging out with a camera the whole time.

What makes it special isn’t just the racing, though that’s obviously cool. It’s the off-track stuff, the little conversations in hotel rooms, the calm before the storm. Stewart talks through everything: how he approaches the track, what he’s thinking before a race, and how dangerous the sport really was back then. You really feel the weight of it all, and Polanski’s POV shows the grittiness from that time.

Years later, they reunited in the same hotel room to talk about how much has changed in the sport—and how much hasn’t. It’s simple, honest, and reflective. Not flashy, not over-produced. Just two old friends looking back on a moment in time that mattered.

You can watch it on Amazon prime, iTunes and other streaming platforms.
