Greetings from 35,000 ft. Im en route to Dallas for a layover, then to Venice for an event, then straight back home. It’s hard to not stay some extra days in Italy, but a quick trip like this is best to not even attempt to get on the time zone and just get home as soon as possible to hopefully not mess with the internal clock too much.
I took the last week or so away from my computer to have some quality time with the family and a few friends in Kauai. A much needed reset. It’s not often I’m traveling without some sort of work obligation, so it was great to have 6 days of pure relaxation. Some golf, beach hangs and great meals.
I have a few posts I’m working on to put out soon including my all-encompassing camera gear round up including editing tips I use etc. Its going to be a full one so I’m trying to take my time on making it thorough for you guys. I’m also working on a golf post as well for all my golfers out there.
In the mean time wanted to jump back into a Weekly Provisions. If you’ve missed any of these in the past, check you The Archives.
Slowing down to speed up
Some of you maybe know that feeling when you were a kid when you would be running down a big steep grassy hill and you’d be going faster and faster until your legs cant keep up with your momentum and before you know if your smack on your face with a mouthful of grass? Well thats sometimes how life feels. Don’t get me wrong, I love forward momentum, but sometimes we can take on more than we intend and before we know it, our plates are too full. Decision fatigue, endless obligations stacking on top of each other. It happens.
Our recent trip to see some friends in Kauai was exactly what I needed. I needed to slow down. Purposefully slow down with the intent to do nothing. To not be productive, not to get further along on a project, not to do emails or substack for that matter. Disconnect from most of the noise.
I journaled most mornings when I’d wake up before the kiddo. I had a realization of how I wanted to reframe what slowing down means (to me). I used to think slowing down meant losing momentum. I’d be worried that I may lose steam and not gain it back. Maybe I’d have to start from scratch again and work my way back up to the productivity I was at before.
I’m trying to see it as the opposite. Purposefully slowing down so that when I dive back in, I have the energy and excitement to work harder and be more passionate about whatever the task may be in daily life. In essence, Slowing down to Speed up.
Golfing Barefoot
On the same note as above, being barefoot is a huge stress reliever. Basically not wearing shoes in Kauai for a week I also realized is a great reset. I golfed barefoot one of the days and it was incredible. Im pretty sure I played worse than if I had shoes on, but I didn’t care. It took wanting to play “good” out of the equation and just be present.
Highly recommend a barefoot round soon especially somewhere tropical. Rain, losing balls & bad shots aren’t nearly as bad when barefoot.
Binge Worthy
Mob Land is a gritty new series by Guy Ritchie. It’s basically a British crime series set in London, with all the usual Ritchie stuff: slick dialogue, tough guys, twists, and a bunch of shady characters double-crossing each other. Think Snatch or The Gentlemen but in a TV format, so it has more time to build out the world and characters. Super stylish and entertaining if you’re into that kind of fast-paced, gangster vibe. Highly recommend if you’re wanting a new show to binge.
The Gentleman was such a good show, still waiting for Season 2.
Let me know if you have time for a coffee while in Dallas!
