Mercedes-Benz G550 Stronger than the 1980's Edition, Garage outfit & more.
Morning All—
Hope everyone had a great weekend. Summer seems to be in full swing. I know this because I have switched from Cortados in the morning to iced cold brew and shorts go on first thing instead of pants.
Some of you that have followed along for a while know that I’m a car nut and I haven’t spoken of cars on here much yet. Today is the day we do just that. & a bit more.
Mercedes Benz G550 Stronger than the 1980’s Special Edition
It's not often a car comes along that truly blows my socks off. And the ones that usually do, are very unattainable. This is one of those cars. This is a forever car. My love affair with the G class started about four years ago when I spent the summer driving one in Europe, that my good friends from Mercedes-Benz let me use. The seed was planted, and there was no looking back. The history of the G classes the only one that rides that have the 911. Iconic, timeless design and rich heritage.
A couple years ago, the 500,000 G wagen was produced and Mercedes was smart enough to make sure that number 500,000 that rolled off of the production line was something special. They simply made one of one. An homage to the original 1986 280GE Model. This car took the Internet by storm. Seems like everyone, including myself, was so excited and then so sad all in the same moment because they strictly made one of one.
I was with some friends in Switzerland from Mercedes-Benz and I was hounding them about needing to create a limited run of these. It would for sure be one of the most unique G wagens ever made. They kind of just told me “ yes that would be cool” and avoided the topic. Today's day I still don't know if they already had this stronger than the 1980s edition in the works or not. If not, I secretly hope that I along with many other others helped push them to do so.
Anyways, The Stronger than the 1980s Edition got released a few months ago. Again, the Internet was taken by storm. I have to agree with most that the name is not an ideal. I think that could've been done a bit more tastefully to match the overall aesthetic heritage of the car. But it's not about the name, it's about the car. This addition is limited to 460 units in the world. I do wish they had done individual numbering of whichever number car you ended up receiving instead of 1 of 460 on all of them.
One thing I was a bit worried about with this car is that this is the year they switched from a V8 to an in-line 6. The rumble of a V8 in a G class is half of the fun. You hear it coming before you see it. But this heritage edition is simple, classic and timeless. The in-line six is exactly what should be in this car after driving it for only two days. It's smooth, quiet and as a subtle hum like a diesel ( which I wish we had in the USA ). The in-line 6 is faster and it just feels right in this car to be completely honest. If you need a V8, you should be driving a G63 ( amazing In its own right ).
The interior is refined and simple. Plaid seats just like the original but with a nice leather trim. Only the essentials. Not all the pointless bells and whistles like massage seats or heads up displays.
They brought back the original blue and silver badge on the front of the car, as well as the original style rear badge. These are two very small, but amazing style points that only some will notice. And that's the beauty of it. The Amber indicator lights are one of my favorite subtle changes. It works perfectly with the Agave Green color. My old G that I just sold had a canvas spare tire cover from Japan that I always loved the look of to dumb down a modern G. This one comes off the line with an OEM tire cover that is absolutely perfect. Thebadge on the inner door panel with matching green paint and the Classic 5 spoke silver wheels are also pretty great.
There are so many more small things about this car that I could go on and on about. But that would mean I would be wasting valuable time out driving it. I'm beyond excited to have this as the new daily and just wanted to share it with you guys! Will give updates as time goes on!
More car content to come soon.

Incredible rig - color & detailed touches (badges, seats, etc.) make it. And, agreed on the name and edition numbering, but you are right that the truck itself is far more important than either of those (and if anything the quirks add to the overall vibe I think). "This is a forever car" is great to hear in an era where everything feels temporary or disposable. Nicely acquired.
New balance is the goat of comfort. Can’t beat them. Loved your pikes peak YouTube video from way back. Came across it the other day.
Random question but how do you deliver client photography work?
I just shot for a hotel with my Leica q2 this past weekend and trying to find the best way to export all those large jpeg files
